50th Annual Carol of Lights

“This event is one of Texas Tech’s biggest and longest standing traditions. This year’s theme will be ‘50 Years of Shining Bright’. The event starts off with the Texas Tech University Combined Choirs performing selections of classic holiday songs at the Science Quadrangle at 6:30 p.m. When the lighting ceremony commences at 7 p.m., students as well as those who came for the show stand in awe as over 25,000 red, white, and orange lights illuminate the 13 buildings surrounding Memorial Circle.

This tradition started in 1959 when Harold Hinn came up with the idea and provided the funds to cover the science quadrangle and the administration building with lights. Unfortunately, students were away on Christmas break and did not see the display. The next year the Residence Hall Association created the Christmas Sing, which is now known as the Carol of Lights. Today, the Carol of Lights is one of Texas Tech's favorite traditions”.

Itu lah cerita serba sedikit mengenai Carol of Light ni. This is my first time going to Carol of Light. It is so gorgeous. I encourage everyone to go! Thousands of people gather around “the key” – tempat diaorang nak menyayi tu lah, in darkness, then a light parade, carols, and then all at once more than 25,000 lights go on. It’s amazing and the best start to the holiday season... upppss... but I have exam tomorrow hehehehe. My first final exam at TTU, subject statistic lagi tu.

Tech’s choir also sings some Christmas carols right before and when all of the lights are finally turned on memorial circle looks awesome!

There is also a huge Christmas tree that is put up in the front entrance of campus and is lit at the same time. It really puts people into the Christmas spirit.

Ni yang aku respect dia orang ni, dalam apa acara sekali pun orang kurang upaya tak pernah di lupakan. Ni carols untuk mereka-mereka yang tak dapat mendengar seperti kita.

Malam tu very cold and windy, menggigil lah jugak, tapi nak tengok carol ni punya pasal… terpaksalah tahan sikit. Yang syok tu, dapat juga kami bergambar dengan ‘Red Rider’ – mascot TTU.

Guns Up!
